Challenges of Emergency Management in Nigeria: A Case Study of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) (FEMA)

The study examined the challenges of emergency management and response in Nigeria; a case FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Nigeria. assesses nature trend disasters situations prevalent Federal Capital Territory (FCT), effectiveness FEMA’s to FCT, highlights Environmental FCT. Both primary secondary methods data collection were used. Descriptive statistics used analyze data. findings revealed that road crashes flooding are highest recorded area. shows 2014, 40 recorded, 26 2016, 49 2019. In terms emergencies, from 2014 2019, 215 740 lives saved as result time 3 15 minutes. also FEMA synergies with other stakeholders response. Training staffs was periodically carried out improve productivity level alertness staff. Some humanitarian services include distribution relief materials school enrolment for internally displaced persons (IDPs). These notwithstanding, activities agency have been constrained by inadequate funding, poor logistics, wrong address callers, lack proper maintenance infrastructure equipment, improper vulnerability assessment, ineffective legal regulatory framework. Based on findings, recommends adequate use means transportation, public enlightenment, increase among stakeholders.
